Compliance
Compliance & safety
How we protect patient information, handle specimens safely and document every hand-off. Copies of every certificate are available before your first run.
HIPAA & Business Associate Agreements
A courier who carries prescriptions or specimens handles protected health information: names on bags, labels on tubes, requisition forms. Under HIPAA that makes us a business associate, so we sign a Business Associate Agreement with every client who needs one.
- Annual HIPAA training for every driver, with certificates on file
- Labels and paperwork kept closed and out of sight in the vehicle
- No patient information on personal phones or in text messages
- Delivery records kept only as long as your agreement allows
Bloodborne pathogens
Drivers are trained under OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030), renewed every year. Every vehicle carries a spill kit, gloves, disinfectant and a sealed bag for contaminated materials, and we follow a written exposure control plan.
Specimen packaging
Clinical specimens travel as Category B biological substances (UN3373) in triple packaging: a leak-proof primary container, a sealed secondary bag with absorbent material, and a rigid outer container carrying the UN3373 diamond. We can supply the packaging or use yours.
Temperature control
Separate insulated containers for ambient (15–25 °C), refrigerated (2–8 °C) and frozen specimens, with gel packs or dry ice as your lab specifies. Temperature classes never share a container.
Chain of custody
Every pickup and drop-off is signed and time-stamped. You can request the full custody record for any date, specimen or order.
Drivers & vehicles
- Background check and clean driving record
- Clean, climate-controlled vehicle used only for courier work during routes
